I am wrapped tightly inside my cocoon

I will be spreading my colorful wings soon

I cannot wait to fly from flower to flower

As the sun softly kisses me with its mighty power

People will be in awe of the colors on my wings

I will be a daily reminder of the creator of things

When a storm approaches and the rain begins its fall

I will hide on someone’s porch and just watch it all

When the rain leaves and the sunshine is back in its place

I will fly gently pass a laughing child’s face

I will delicately land on her little button nose

As her smile of cross-eyed wonderment she shows

I will then flutter away to the sounds of giggle and pleasure

Leaving behind a memory she will always treasure


Yesterday I was wrapped tightly inside my cocoon

Dreaming of how my life would change soon

Today I am something different wonderful and new

Today I am a butterfly whose dream has come true
